The First Ever DTLR-CIAA Scholarship Is Here! Apply Now!

We’re excited to announce that the first ever DTLR-CIAA scholarship has arrived! Applications are open today and we couldn’t be any more thrilled about this opportunity.

The deadline to apply is April 6th, 2021 at 3:00pm CT. Here’s some FAQs to help you navigate this exciting opportunity and to see if you’re eligible:

  1. Why did DTLR decide to launch the DTLR-CIAA Scholarship?

This year, the Center Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) tournament returned to Baltimore for the first time since 1952. In addition to serving as an official sponsor for all virtual CIAA events, including education day, we wanted to do something extra to help provide support for graduating high school seniors who are looking to attend a participating CIAA school full-time in the fall.

  1. How many scholarships are you awarding through this new program?

This scholarship serves to award up to 5 graduating high school seniors who not only have demonstrated a commitment to their academics, but also to their local and school community, which is an important aspect of DTLR’s corporate culture.

  1. Who is eligible for this scholarship?

To be considered for this first-ever scholarship, you must be a graduating high school senior looking to attend one of the participating CIAA schools. Students must have a minimum GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale (or equivalent). They must also provide a statement of career and educational goals and objectives, note unusual or family circumstances and an online recommendation.

Participating schools include: Bowie State University; Chowan University; Elizabeth City State University; Fayetteville State University; Johnson C. Smith University; Lincoln University; Livingstone College; Saint Augustine’s University; Shaw University; Virginia State University; Virginia Union University; and Winston-Salem State University.

  1. When and how can high school seniors begin to apply?

Eligible students can apply starting today through Tuesday, April 6 by visiting

  1. When will those who were selected be notified?

Scholarship recipients will be noticed the third week in May.

  1. Why is this scholarship important?

The last year has been very hard on many people, so we wanted to create a scholarship to help ease some of the financial burden for students that have displayed excellence in academics, had an impact on their local and school communities, and overcome unusual personal or family circumstances.

Our company has a longstanding history of supporting students and HBCUs, so this is another way we are able to demonstrate that commitment.
