So every year XXL Freshman list creates one of the biggest debates in our culture. The first thing I want to say is congrats to everyone who made the cover this year. Regardless of what anyone says you all deserved to be on the list. I personally want to wish everyone the best in their careers.
Now for the fun part , for the sake of argument who should have made the cut or could have made the cut. I am going to list a few people just to see what everyone thinks. Remember I don’t know how XXL picks or the criteria so this is just a few artist I believe may have been missed for one reason or another.
Giveon was first introduced to me by Drake’s Chicago Freestyle in 2020 and he continued with the #1 R & B album of the year.
EST GEE is probably the biggest snub of the 2021 class. He has the streets on lock and major cosigns. Maybe he will make the list next year for sure.
Erica Banks had a viral hit with Buss It and seems to be following that right up with Toot That. Maybe it’s too soon but ummmm nevermind.
Fredo Bang has been dropping bangers , selling out shows and TOP is a SMASH. This one is a head scratcher for sure.
So I am going to combine these to but Cochise & $not definitely have the fanbase and have the cosigns. Drake even posted $not so I was confused a bit. Rockstars for real.
The Kid LAROI has hit the charts a few times over the last year and seems to have the fan base to make it make like an easy pick.
MoneyBagg Yo’s Artist and one of the biggest artist out of Memphis right now. Maybe this just wasn’t his year but for sure next year.
Shordie Shordie dropped a dope project with Murda Beatz along with already going platinum. He has also stayed pretty consistent. *Scratches Head* We need a recount.
