Cardi B Becomes First Woman Rapper To Go Diamond With ‘Bodak Yellow’

Written by on March 9, 2021

Wow! MAJOR congratulations are in order to Cardi B for becoming the first ever woman rapper to earn a RIAA certified Diamond plaque for her hit single “Bodak Yellow!”

For those unsure, to earn a Diamond plaque, you must sell a whopping 10 MILLION units of a song. Don’t confuse this with 10 million “streams” – in the streaming era, 1.5 billion streams roughly equals 1 million units. Now of course, some of Cardi’s 10 million units sold come from actual purchases and not just through streams, but to put it in perspective, “Bodak Yellow’s” been streamed the equivalent of 10.5 billion times. Just unbelievable!

There’s only been a handful of rappers to achieve this feat including Eminem, 50 Cent, Nelly, Outkast, Drake and a couple others. Cardi joins the exclusive “diamond club” and is putting on for the ladies being the first woman rapper to do it. How fitting for it to be Women’s History Month at that!

Major congratulations to Cardi, producers J. White Did It and Laquan Green, as well as additional songwriters Klenord Raphael and Jordan Thorpe. You all deserve it to the fullest!

Stream “Bodak Yellow” below for old time’s sakes.
